Commuters are warned to expect significant delays as rail workers, Border Force personnel, and driving examiners return to strike today.

The day will be followed by travel chaos despite the rail strike by the Rail, Maritime, and Transport Workers Union (RMT) coming to an end.

Commuters have been left waiting at major London train stations, and many journeys have been delayed as a result of late engineering work handover.

Here is a list:

• Members of the Transport Salaried Staffs' Association (TSSA) at Great Western Railway will strike on Thursday from noon to 11:59 a.m.
• West Midlands Trains will go on strike for 24 hours, beginning at noon and ending at the same time on Thursday.
Driving examiners from the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union at 71 test centres will go on strike for five days
• Border Force officers will go on strike for four days at six airports including Gatwick, Heathrow, Stansted, and Luton.

As a result of the TSSA strike, West Midlands Trains announced that none of its services would operate beginning Wednesday morning.

TSSA organising director Nadine Rae believes that allowing employers to "freely negotiate" with others will help end strike action.

As a result of the wave of industrial unrest, Network Rail has warned passengers that travel will be "significantly disrupted" into the new year.

Border Force officers at Gatwick, Heathrow, Birmingham, Cardiff, Manchester, and Glasgow airports, as well as the port of Newhaven, will return to work on New Year's Eve.

Meanwhile, unions are reportedly considering splitting ballots by job title rather than holding a single vote to stage additional strikes.
