While governments all over the world started banning TikTok from their work phones, UK security minister Tom Tugendhat has asked the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) to investigate the app’s security.

The Chinese-owned video-sharing app, TikTok is coming under closer scrutiny from the US and EU over security and data privacy due to worries that it can be used to spread pro-Beijing ideologies or collect user data.

A prohibition has previously been proposed by the EU Commission, more than half of the US states, and Congress due to worries about potential cyberattacks.

By stating that the UK will "look at what our partners are doing," Prime Minister Rishi Sunak implied that the UK may follow suit.
