UK Royal Mail postal workers strike over wages working conditions

Postal workers in the UK have again gone on strike in an ongoing dispute over pay and working conditions. There will undoubtedly be more walkouts as the busy Christmas season draws near.

According to the Communication Workers Union, the biggest strike in a year that has seen industrial stirs in other industries, including rail, was recently called. Also, 115,000 members from all over the UK reportedly participated. On the sixth day of the protest, picket lines have lately been drawn up in front of Royal Mail offices.

Plans for UK Royal Mail

The union said that due to the structural changes Royal Mail plans, employees with stable, well-paying jobs would be replaced by a casualized, financially precarious workforce.


The plans call for lowering sick pay for workers, delaying mail delivery to the general public by three hours, and offering less desirable working conditions, according to the Communication Workers Union (CWU).



The union has declared an additional 19-day strike action in the upcoming weeks.
