UK response to China on abandoning zero covid policy and resuming travel abroad, under review: Defence Secretary

The UK's Defence Secretary will keep its COVID response under review as China resumes to reopen the borders for travel abroad. China recently announced ending it’s zero-covid policy, which has prompted fears in various countries. Countries fear if China opens its borders in January, it will lead to a massive outbreak of travelers spreading the disease.

There is fear in every country that the end of almost three years of strict precautions in a country with billions of people will result in a massive outbreak of the virus worldwide.

The UK government officials said that there are no plans in resuming the testing for covid-19 for the arrivals into the UK.



But the UK Health Agency will monitor the spread of harmful variants of the virus and will keep reviewing the international data.

On Wednesday the US government announced that from 5 January the arrivals from China will need to provide a negative COVID test result not more than two days before their flight.

This decision was made seeing the strains circulating in the country. The same is followed by other countries like India, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia.
