The UK has seen a surge in Covid cases this week, months after the curve was flattened. Country’s southwest region has seen a dramatic rise of 250% in Covid cases.


Autumn Covid Wave

Remarkably, around 37% more people have been hospitalised with Covid since the previous week. Around 9,631 people were in the hospital due to Covid infection on October 5 compared to 7,024 a week before.

The hospitalisation rate is 10.8 per 100,000 people compared to 7.5 last week, which is also the highest number of Covid hospitalisations that UK recorded since August 3.


It is pertinent to mention that most cases are in people ages 85 and above. The hospitalisation rate in this age group is 132.3 per 100,000.

On Tuesday, the daily cases numbered 224,000 per day, marking a rise of 27% than last week.

A new study published in The Lancet journal asked more than 76,400 adults in the Netherlands to fill out an online questionnaire on 23 common long Covid symptoms. Between March 2020 and August 2021, each participant filled out the questionnaire 24 times. During that period, more than 4,200 of them -- 5.5 percent -- reported catching Covid. Common Cold also Spreading

Moreover, professor Tim Spector of the ZOE health tracking app has said that the number of people with the common cold is rising higher than the number of people with Covid. He also said that the country is facing a “twindemic” of Covid and colds as winter approaches. The app shows that there is an autumn wave now.
