The Metropolitan Police on Monday arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of murder of a woman, believed to be an Indian national, in south London's Croydon. The 19-year-old woman had recently moved to the UK and was known to the accused.

In a statement, the Met said that officers found the woman with stab injuries at a home in Ash Tree Way on Sunday afternoon. She was pronounced dead at the scene, it said.

"The woman is believed to be an Indian national who is thought to have arrived in the United Kingdom relatively recently. Officers are working to trace and inform her family," the police said


The Met was not looking for anyone else in connection with the investigation, the statement further said.

Meanwhile, police are appealing witnesses, including anyone who saw or heard a disturbance at the address, to come forward.

The arrested accused was taken to hospital after he suffered a minor head injury.
