Greta Thunberg has been charged by British police with a public order offense after being arrested at a protest outside a London hotel hosting an oil and gas conference on Wednesday.

British police has alleged that she failed to comply with conditions intended to prevent "serious disruption to the community, hotel, and guests."

After her arrest, Thunberg was soon released on bail and is asked to appear in court on November 15.

“The elites have no intention of transition. We have to take direct action. We have to reclaim the power and that is what we are doing today. We have to kick oily money out”, said Greta Thunberg on the ongoing 'Fossil Free London press conference'.

'Oily Money Out' protest
Thunberg and 25 other individuals were charged in connection with the protest that took place on Tuesday. The demonstration unfolded outside the Intercontinental Hotel in central London, where the Energy Intelligence Forum was convening to host leaders from the oil and gas industry.

A global icon for climate activism
Greta Thunberg is recognised as the face of young climate activists, first garnered attention by staging weekly protests outside the Swedish parliament in 2018. Her unwavering commitment to climate action has made her a symbol of a younger generation, addressing the pressing issues of the future.

This year alone, the 20-year-old activist has faced police detention and removal from protests in her home country of Sweden, as well as in Norway and Germany.

Video footage from the Tuesday protest captured Greta Thunberg, wearing a badge with the slogan 'Oily Money Out,' standing calmly as she interacted with two police officers.
