UK Christmas strikes: National Highways workers to stage 4-day walkout

National Highway Workers are planning to go on strike till the day of Christmas Day.

National Highway Workers have decided to go on a strike till Christmas day in England. Because several people step out during the holiday season, this strike can cause a great nuisance.

The Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union is encouraging regional operating center operatives and on-road traffic officers to go on a 4-day strike.

Mark Serwotka, General Secretary of PCS, commented that they demand to increase in the wages for National Highway Workers. The union is aware of the inconvenience the strike will cause, but they have to hold their ground. The strike will end today if the government puts more money on the table.

PCS has given the Department for Work and Pensions a formal notice of this extended national strike.

Workers from Doncaster Crossgate House, which is a threatened closure site, have been on strike since Monday, and on Thursday, they were joined by other members of the PCS union. All members of PCS working in the building will continue the strike in January.
