The Met had issued an amber weather warning for parts of south and mid-Wales, covering areas from Newport to Carmarthen and as far north as Brecon. The alert, which was in place from Sunday afternoon until early on Monday, warned of potential flooding and major travel disruptions.
A "danger to life" warning was issued, cautioning residents about deep floodwater and heavy downpours overnight into Monday.
Additional yellow weather warnings for rain were also in force for south-west England and much of southern and central Wales. Forecasters had predicted up to 100mm (4 inches) of rainfall in the most exposed hilly regions of Wales.
Environment Agency issues public safety warnings
The Environment Agency has urged people to avoid driving through floodwaters, warning that just 30cm of flowing water can be enough to move a vehicle. Officials are also encouraging residents in flood-prone areas to sign up for free flood alerts to stay informed.By Monday afternoon, the south and southeast of England, particularly coastal areas, were expected to experience further torrential downpours. The rain is also set to spread northeast, affecting parts of the Midlands later in the day. As of Monday afternoon, 13 flood warnings were in effect, along with 84 flood alerts.

Outlook for the coming days
The latest weather maps indicate lighter showers across Scotland and Northern Ireland, providing some relief after a stormy weekend. Despite the persistent rain, a slight improvement in conditions is expected later in the day, with sunny spells emerging in some regions.Met Office meteorologist Kathryn Chalk stated in a video forecast that after a turbulent Sunday, much of the UK can expect periods of sunshine throughout Monday. However, heavy spells of rain will linger in some areas, particularly in the morning, making for a damp and difficult rush hour."
She added that the rain will gradually move eastward, giving way to brighter skies behind it. However, scattered showers are expected in southern England, particularly in London and East Anglia, while parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland could see heavy showers with occasional thunderstorms.
