Only the most critical 911 calls were answered during Wednesday's ambulance strike. However, according to NHS Providers, there was no evidence of patients arriving at A&E in taxis or their cars. On Wednesday, thousands of paramedics, call takers, and technicians went on strike in England and Wales.
While there were fewer 999 calls on Wednesday, more individuals were dialing 111, and more people were directed to out-of-hospital services, according to Matthew Taylor, chief executive of the NHS Confederation.
He told Radio 4's Today show that they dealt as best as they could yesterday. Still, it is critical to recognize that we cannot continue to cope with NHS industrial action because each time it occurs, there are direct implications and knock-on effects.
He also echoed worries over more strikes in January, stating it was the worst possible moment for the NHS to face the action. He asked both trade unions and the government to move away from the hyperbole and step into talks.

Interim chief executive for NHS Providers, Saffron Cordery, representing mental health trusts, hospital trusts, and the ambulance services in England, said it was too early to determine the full effect of the strike.
