In a tragic accident, two teenage boys drowned on a jetty near Lough Enagh in Northern Ireland. The two 16-year-olds were a part of the group cycling in the area during Bank Holiday on Monday. One of the two boys drowned trying to save his friend, unable to swim back to the shore.

The local police were called in shortly after the accident, following which a rescue operation was launched. Multiple ambulances, medics, and rescue crews arrived on the scene as soon as the group accompanying the drowned raised the alarm by contacting local authorities and passing by vehicles. One of the boys found early was taken to a local hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The body of the other teenager was discovered late at night after an extensive search by police divers and Foyle Search & Rescue searchers.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed the news on Twitter, stating that the two bodies were recovered from the Temple Road area of Londonderry. Other than the deceased, the group included four boys, one of whom sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital. The other three boys appeared to be in utter shock due to the horrific accident.

Residents have confirmed that the two deceased boys belonged to well-known families from the Indian community in the Waterside area of Derry. The boys from the Syro-Malabar community visited the local St. Columb’s Church, as confirmed by Father Michael Canny. The local police authorities are investigating the incident, though preliminary examination doesn’t indicate foul play.
