A bizarre incident occurred in Northern England where two men entered a river following a police pursuit, prompting officials to issue an urgent appeal for information on the two as the search continued.

In a release issued on December 6, 2025 (Saturday), by the Humberside Police in Hull, the two men were driving in a vehicle with "a defective rear light" on Friday evening, December 5. Things took a serious turn when, according to the release, the vehicle failed to stop for a routine check, after which officers "engaged in a short pursuit", following the vehicle to Charlotte Street, where the car "collided with a wall".

The two men fled on foot and "are believed to have entered the River Hull" near Charlotte Street at around 8:30 p.m. local time, the release stated.

Probe launched as men entered the water

Detective Inspector Andy Crawforth said in a statement, "Following reports of two men entering the water, a search was immediately launched to locate and identify them."

“We are extremely concerned for their welfare and are conducting extensive lines of enquiries in an attempt to identify and locate them," he continued. "So far, this has included searches by our patrol officers, the Coastguard, Humberside Fire and Rescue service and our specialist Underwater Search Team."

Crawforth stated that local residents should expect to see "an increased police presence" in and around the area as the search continued. “To help with these enquiries, I would ask anyone who believes they know who these men are or who thinks that someone they know went missing yesterday evening to contact us immediately," he added.

Crawforth also urged people to contact Humberbridge Police in case they have witnessed the incident or if they have CCTV or doorbell footage from Friday night. “I would also urge anyone who has information that could assist our enquiries, including any CCTV, doorbell footage or witnesses who were in the area at the time, to contact us on our non-emergency number 101, quoting log 461 of 5 December,” the release said.
