According to Russia’s local officials, two massive explosions in St Petersburg and Sakhalin Island killed at least nine people, including four children. The cause of the blast is speculated to be depressurisation in the pipeline.

According to local officials, two huge gas explosions in Russia have killed at least nine people, including four children recently. The first explosion occurred on Sakhalin Island in Russia’s Far East on Saturday morning. A part of the five-storey building in Tymovskoye fell at 5:30 am when a gas cylinder exploded.

Valery Limarenko said that rescue personnel were looking for other casualties under the rubble and that people impacted by the blast had been given temporary refuge. According to The Moscow Times, he informed about the death of nine individuals, including four children.

On Saturday morning, a second explosion happened in a gas pipeline close outside St. Petersburg soon after the first blast, causing a massive fire. Alexander Drozdenjo, the Governor, assured everyone on Telegram of no potential threat of the fire’s spread to residential areas.
