Detective Chief Inspector Matt Holdsworth said that the police will ensure that that the accused face consequences for their action.
"This is an extremely serious incident which has resulted in the death of two young men and injury to another person. We have specialist officers supporting both of their families and are determined to get answers for them and ensure that the person or people responsible for the incident face consequences for their actions."
He further asked the people to come forward to provide further information into the incident.
“What I would ask for now is the support of the wider public in providing any information about what has taken place or the events leading up to it. People were present in the area at the time of the incident, and I would urge anyone with information relevant to our investigation to please make contact.
“I want to assure people that we are doing everything to investigate all possible lines of enquiry to understand the full circumstances of what took place," he added.
Two men, aged 19 and 21, died in the assault in the market town's Commercial Street earlier in the day. A third victim, 18, has received treatment and is reportedly out of danger, police officials said.
