Train strikes in UK postponed. Here's what will happen next

A round of national strikes has been called off by the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) that were to be on Saturday, Monday, and Wednesday.

The Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) cancelled three days of strike action starting Saturday for further negotiations with the rail heads. Originally the strikes called for would have impacted 80 per cent of the rail network. Though the strike is now called off in expectation of talks and offers by the train operating companies, the dispute is still alive.

Re-Ballot Planned

The RMT will be going forward with the planned re-ballot of its members to decide on fresh actions. The ballot results will be on November 15. Mick Lynch, RMT General Secretary, said that the strong support by the industry campaign and the threat of the strike helped secure talks. He said that the RMT has always wanted and will continue to push for a negotiated statement on the issues. He said that the RMT would work towards a deal for job security, good working conditions and a pay raise for its members. The RMT is still keeping strike action as an option during the next six months to secure a deal.
