British doctors have issued guidelines advising parents when to take immediate action regarding Strep A as the death toll hits 16 kids. The bug has caused widespread panic among parents all over, swamping the 111 call centres.

The bacteria are commonly carried by a fifth of people and typically have no or mild symptoms. It can be treated with antibiotics. One of the disadvantages, though, is that it can be mistaken for other viruses.
Due to the growing panic, the RCGP recently published guidelines for parents when they need help and when they do not. These guidelines aimed to reduce parents' worries and pressure on healthcare providers. There have been 652 reports of the disease, making it the highest in the last five years.
Young patients are more prone to the disease, constantly adding to the parent's worries. Parents should trust their judgement in these times and seek immediate attention in case their child shows dehydration, irritability, a blue tongue/skin, or if they are having trouble staying awake.
