Top 10 dramas of 2022 unveiled with BBC at top of list

The most-watched dramas of 2022 in the UK have been revealed. As per reports, BBC has been leading the way with seven web series in the top ten, including the number one. According to a Radio Times report, BBC One’s The Tourist was the most viewed drama of the year in the UK, as suggested by the BARB 28 Day 4 Screen Data.

ITV series Trigger Point and The Thief, His Wife and The Canoe occupied the second and the third positions, respectively. The next two spots were taken by BBC shows The Responder and Death in Paradise in succession. Thus, BBC has three names in the top five, which indicates how successful 2022 has been for them.

The sixth (SAS Rogue Heroes), seventh (Call the Midwife), eighth (Sherwood), and ninth (Silent Witness) positions were all taken by BBC shows. The tenth spot in the list was taken by ITV’s Our House. Hence, it’s all been a BBC and ITV affair throughout the year, which is not encouraging news for other broadcasters.




Commenting on its success in 2022, BBC's Chief Content Officer Charlotte Moore said the success shows that BBC continued to punch above its weight. Charlotte claimed that their writers were at the top of their game and that she was proud of the broadcaster's hit rate.

The top ten list featured three returning shows this time, while the rest have been new dramas. "The Tourist", the most-watched show of the year, debuted on New Year’s Day and became a sensational hit. The drama had over 12 million viewers in the first 30 days of release. The second season was confirmed for the Jamie Dornan starrer following its massive success, which could possibly be a prequel to the events from the first season.
