Three dead as fire breaks out at New County Hotel in Perth

Three people have been reported to be dead in a fire incident in the New County Hotel, Perth.

Almost 21 ambulance crews as well as all the emergency services including fire trucks were called to the Hotel County at around 05:10 am.

As the hotel was up in flames, guests staying there and some people from the neighbouring flats were evacuated immediately. The police set up a cordon, requesting members of the public to leave the area.


Few people received minor injuries and were treated by the Scottish Ambulance Services. The fire was extinguished at about 06:30 am and the dead bodies were discovered in a subsequent search by the police. After searching the whole place, just before midday, police started the task of removing all the bodies from blue tents that were near the hotel into a private ambulance.

The residents of the area spoke in a sense of shock knowing that such a huge tragedy could have happened just the next day of the new year. As informed by The Scotting Fire and Rescue Service, a dog also died in the fire.



The Scotland police stated that the officers were also conducting an investigation with the fire service. Everybody in the public and the residents of the city were consoling the families and loved ones of those, who died in the fire.

Councillor Eric Drysdale also arrived at the hotel, and showed love and concern to the affected families. He said it was heartbreaking seeing the families suffering and showed sympathy to all the people affected by this tragedy. He is the Deputy leader of Perth and Kinos Council.

He further added that there have been three deaths and the investigation has to take its course. He sought apology from people and the businesses on the street that have been affected by the incident. He said everything is being done to restore access as soon as possible.
