The first trailer for the mystery thriller 'The Pale Blue Eye', in which Christian Bale plays a veteran investigator Augustus Landor, has been released by Netflix. The film follows Landor when he is summoned to investigate a murder at the United States Military Academy in West Point, which is based on the 2006 novel by Louis Bayard of the same name. There is a serial killer on the loose, and Augustus enlists the aid of Edgar Allan Poe (Harry Melling) to solve the case. Poe, best known for "The Raven," "The Fall of the House of Usher," and "A Dream Within a Dream," is presented as a young recruit at the military college.

The Netflix picture also stars Gillian Anderson, Lucy Boynton, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Charlie Tahan, Harry Lawtey, Toby Jones, Timothy Spall, Gideon Glick, Simon McBurney, Fred Hechinger, Robert Duvall and Hadley Robinson, in addition to Bale and Melling. Scott Cooper, with whom Bale collaborated on 2013's "Out of the Furnace" and 2017's "Hostiles," wrote and directed "The Pale Blue Eye."



Cooper and Bale co-produce alongside Tyler Thompson of Cross Creek Pictures and John Lesher of Grisbi Productions. Dylan Weathered of Grisbi and Tracey Landon executive produce.
