‘The Office’: Christmas episode saved the series from cancellation, say stars

‘The Office’ stars recently revealed that it was the Christmas episode that saved the television series from getting cancelled when the show wasn’t performing well with the audience. The American mockumentary sitcom was started in May, 2005 and lasted till 2013.

The show, initially, wasn’t going through a good time. However, its episode 10 from season 2, Christmas Party, led to the surge in viewership of the series and saved it from getting cancelled. The series stars Brian Baumgartner and Angela Kinsey recently revealed that the show was struggling from week to week and they almost cancelled it many times in the beginning, while in conversation with Yahoo Entertainment.




Brian Baumgartner, who played the role of Kevin Malone in The Office said, “We had declined rapidly and then came back and (that episode) really served as a significant event for us”. He further added, “And from there we really took off”.

While Angela Kinsey remembered the Christmas Party episode by saying, “After that episode aired, we were the number one streaming show on iTunes and all of a sudden we were like, ‘Hold up. We found our audience”. Kinsey further said, “They just became kind of legend episodes”.

The Office’s official YouTube channel has a video titled “Best of the Christmas Parties - The Office US” with over 6.5 lakh views. The video includes funniest moments, pranks and fails from the series.

Apple made the “Christmas Party” episode available on iPod to download for just $1.99 was initially considered to be the reason for the show’s surge in terms of viewership and popularity. The American sitcom came up with 9 seasons with a total of 201 episodes depicting the everyday work lives of office employees.
