‘The Karate Kid’ movie: Ralph Macchio shares why legendary film still connects with audience

‘The Karate Kid’ movie, which was released in 1984, is still relevant in today’s world.

Ralph Macchio, who portrayed Daniel in the film ‘The Karate Kid’, is speaking from his home on Long Island, just a few dojos from where he grew up, to share his view on why the film is still so beloved.

According to him, the characters interacted on a human level that transcended distance, time, and generations. Bullying, desire fulfilment, mentorship, overcoming difficulties, single parenting, and starting a new life in a distant place are all topics covered in this book. All of these ideas are still relevant today. Therefore, they have echoed even more than his crane kick to Johnny Lawrence's face at the end of The Karate Kid.

The Miyagi-verse (called after Miyagi, the film's Yoda-like tutor) has grown in size. There was the original film trilogy, then a 1994 update that launched Hilary Swank's career, a Jaden Smith relaunch in 2010, and finally, the enormously successful streaming series Kobra Cai in 2018.
