Peter Jackson has taken the position of the director of the new music video for The Beatles. The music video features never-before-seen archival footage of Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the late John Lennon and George Harrison.
Jackson, reflecting on the immense responsibility of creating a music video for the band's final release, expressed his initial anxieties. He confessed, "My lifelong love of The Beatles collided into a wall of sheer terror at the thought of letting everyone down."
One of Jackson's primary concerns was ensuring that the video stayed true to the essence of The Beatles. He emphasized the need for authentic footage, asserting that no actors or CGI should replace the original members. McCartney and Starr themselves contributed footage of them performing the song, while additional material was provided by Apple, the families of Lennon and Harrison, and former Beatles drummer Pete Best.
To complement the music video, Jackson also directed a short film chronicling the making of "Now and Then." He aimed to strike a balance between somber and lighthearted tones, resulting in a project he takes great pride in. Jackson concluded, "I have genuine pride in what we made, and I’ll cherish that for years to come."
