Thames Water CEO Sarah Bentley has quit. She has put in her papers but will continue to hold the position till her successor is chosen.

After Reading-based company Thames Water was criticized for its poor environmental performance, CEO Sarah Bentley has quit. She has put in her papers but will continue to hold the position till her successor is chosen.

Her annual pay was doubled to GBP 1.5 million, but the company’s environmental performance suffered, and she offered not to accept the bonus. But the union slammed her for the poor performance of the company. GMB union head Gary Carter called her offer ‘nothing but a PR stunt’.

Prior to joining Thames Water, Sarah worked for Severn Trent Water as its Chief Customer Officer for five years. This Coventry-based firm serves millions of people and business houses across the Midlands and Wales.


Thames Water Chairman Ian Merchant thanked Sarah for her contribution and praised her for turning around the company.
