Strictly Come Dancing 2022: Hamza Yassin opens up about social media frenzy after announcement of entry in show

Hamza Yassin faced an influx of social media comments following his selection for Strictly Come Dancing 2022.

The wildlife filmmaker is paired with pro dancer Jowita Crystal in the BBC's blockbuster series. With his movements, he has repeatedly wowed judges Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse, Craig Revel Horwood and Anton Du Beke. Jowita and Hamza appeared on Thursday's Loose Women as the final approaches, reviewing their time during the competition season with Denise Welch, Nadia Sawalha, Jane Moore and Kaye Adams. Jane lavished praise on the camera operator, saying he embodied what the programme was all about since he wasn't Hollywood and exuded 'humility.'

Jane questioned whether he had battled with the onslaught of Strictly, referring to his TV profession, which sees him spend lengthy amounts of time alone and away while studying nature. Hamza said he wanted to say yes since he was and is on social media, but as soon as it got publicised, there was all this: Who is he? I need to find out who he is. And, to be sure, you're not supposed to know who a wildlife cameraman or presenter is. Jane said that he had never experienced it before in his life.



Agreeing, Hamza responded that he wasn't used to being in the spotlight before revealing that he sought advice from Jowita. He added that the encouraging dancer urged him not to worry and to be himself simply and that Jowita got him through most of the week. Despite receiving near-perfect scores of 40, Hamza recently said that he thinks each week on Strictly may be his last.
