Stephen Lawrence murder case: Met Police names Matthew White as sixth suspect – all you need to know
Metropolitan Police have named the sixth suspect in the infamous Stephen Lawrence murder case, who is no more.

Stephen Lawrence was a young man of 18 when he was brutally stabbed to death in a racist attack by a gang of white men in 1993. The incident took place in Eltham, London, while Stephen was waiting for a bus with his friend Duwayne Brooks. Although Brooks managed to escape, Stephen suffered multiple stab wounds and tragically succumbed to his injuries.
The murder of Stephen Lawrence and the subsequent failures of the Metropolitan Police in investigating the crime and bringing the perpetrators to justice have made this case one of the most notorious in UK history. The 1998 Macpherson public inquiry labeled the Metropolitan Police as "institutionally racist," a reputation that still haunts the force to this day, as per reports.
In the original investigation, only two men – David Norris and Gary Dobson – were convicted of Stephen's murder. Three other suspects, Luke Knight and brothers Neil and Jamie Acourt, denied involvement and were never convicted in connection with the killing.
Later, Witnesses reported that White was seen in the local area and at the homes of two other suspects on the night of the murder. Despite a false alibi, police record photos of White resembled the description of the attacker given by eyewitnesses. He was initially arrested but not charged due to insufficient evidence.
In 2020, White was convicted of assaulting a black shop worker and referenced "Stephen Lawrencing." The Metropolitan Police has apologized for mishandling the case and not informing the victim about the charges against White.
