The royals gave the President a complete ceremonial welcome as the President was beside Camilla and the King in the Stage Coach. The monarch used the traditional Irish Stage Coach to open the new Parliament session from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Palace. Queen Elizabeth also rode in the same carriage with her father in 1947 during her wedding to Prince Philip.
