Ship collides with fishing vessel off Jersey coast, 'major search and rescue ops' underway

Off the coast of Jersey, a ship collided with a fishing boat that is assumed to have sunk, prompting the beginning of a massive search and rescue operation. At approximately 5.30 this morning, the incident happened at sea in St. Ouen's Bay.

Along with two French rescue helicopters, an all-weather RNLI lifeboat from Guernsey, and a fixed-wing French naval aircraft, the RNLI's inshore and all-weather lifeboats joined the search.

Numerous neighbourhood fishing boats have also joined the search.


Condor Ferries has so far confirmed that its freight vessel which is named Commodore Goodwill, has been engaged in an accident that took place in North West of Jersey, the company said. The incident happened around 05:30 this morning after the ship left Guernsey for Jersey at 04:41 AM.

Kristina Moore, the Chief Minister of Jersey, expressed her thoughts and prayers to the crewmembers' families.

She tweeted that they are watching this issue intently. She further added that they are grateful to the Guernsey, French, and Jersey services as well as the fishing community for their efforts in finding the crew. The crew and their families are in her prayers and thoughts.
