The Scottish government has widened the eligibility and increased the weekly payment rate under the Scottish Child Payment scheme. Starting from November 14, the weekly payment rate will be increased from £20 to £25, and parents across the country with kids up to the age of 16 will be able to apply for the scheme.

The increase will be applied automatically for the existing beneficiaries, and the payments will be backdated to the claim date for new claims.

More than 400,000 children up to the age of 16 are expected to benefit from the updated rules. First Minister Nicola Sturgeon asked all eligible families to apply for the benefit. Ms. Strugeon stated that the increased payment was vital as the cost of the living crisis was causing "significant hardship for many families."

Scottish Child Payment is a weekly payment that parents and carers get for every under-16s they look after. The money is paid every four weeks at the rate of £25 per week. People getting one or more of the following benefits can apply for Scottish Child Payment:
