Scotland's historic furniture store 'Robertson' gutted in Dundee blaze, details inside

The firefighters strived hard to control the fire that engulfed the famous old Art Deco Robertson’s furniture store on Barrack Street, which has been lying vacant. No casualties were reported.

A massive fire broke out at the Robertson Furniture Store in Dundee late on Saturday night after people had gone home for the night. The fire gutted the store, which was abandoned and empty.

The Robertson Furniture store, which at one time held a prominent place in the minds of people there, has been completely gutted as reports came in. The store was emptied way back in 2011, and no one was known to have been there when the incident occurred.

Video footage of the blaze was taken from as far as Fife on the approach road to Dundee. Scottish Fire and Fescue had put around six crews to control the blaze. Video shared of the area has been streaming the internet.

Niall Campbell, a resident of Fife, saw the blaze from across the river and shared the footage with the PA news agency. He says he has not seen a fire of this magnitude there all his life.

Police have taken over the areas adjoining Barrack street and the scene of a crime, re-directing traffic to safer roads, with the vicinity wholly cordoned off. The fire had completely engulfed the building as videos were shared, destroying four building floors. No incidents of injury or harm have been reported.
