Savoy Brown's legendary blues musician Kim Simmonds passed away on December 13, 2022 at the age of 75, after being diagnosed with colon cancer. Kim was diagnosed with “signet cell” colon cancer (SCCC). It is a fairly uncommon type of disease that only makes up 1% of cases. SCCC is rarely discovered early enough to offer a chance for recovery.

Kim Simmonds's chemotherapy treatment had made it difficult for him to perform. One of the harmful outcomes of chemo is peripheral neuropathy, that damages the nerves in fingers, hands, and feet.

Savoy Brown, formerly known as Savoy Brown Blues Band, was founded by Kim Simmonds in Battersea, London, in 1965. From the time the band was founded until Kim's death in 2022, Kim served as its member, guitarist and primary songwriter.
