Russian withdrawal from Ukraine's Kherson leaves wounded soldiers behind, claims report

The Russian Defence Ministry announced that the Russian withdrawal had been completed after their troops crossed onto the eastern side of the Dnipro River. The Russian forces are consolidating their positions towards the eastern parts of occupied Ukraine, primarily to wear out the winter months ahead, Guardian reported.

Amidst the Russian Ministry of Defence's withdrawal, the ministry has confirmed the retreat at 5 am Moscow time, which is well the night in Ukraine.




Residents say they heard Russian troops rushing towards the bridges late at night for the withdrawal. Russia says this withdrawal has been planned, keeping the winter months ahead in mind.

It should not be construed that the Russians have lost or is under any pressure due to the war in Ukraine. The withdrawal for them is strategic and planned and not a hasty one.
The Ukrainian side, however, has a different story to tell. The Russians have blown up major infrastructure to cripple the city of Kherson, including bridges, the Antonivskiy Bridge and a railway bridge nearby. The retreating troops have abandoned many Russian soldiers, and they have been declared prisoners of war.

Kherson was one of the major cities to be taken over by Moscow in September, much to the condemnation of all NATO powers and the international community.

As the Ukrainian infantry marched into Kherson city, the locals welcomed them in large numbers, with many emotional scenes uploaded on social media. The Ukrainian troops are being trained in the UK and plan to use the winter ahead to provide their forces with rest. Ukraine, in the meantime, plans to prepare its troops better for the onslaught post-winter.
