Rugby league star Rob Burrow’s wheelchair-accessible van vandalised while he was out for meal

The wheelchair-accessible van of former professional rugby league player Rob Burrow was brutally vandalised by yobs. Many solidarity messages have poured in for the family.

Former professional rugby league player Rob Burrow's disability van was vandalised by yobs while the former player was out for a Christmas meal with family. The news was shared by Burrow's father Geoff Burrow in a Twitter post.

Burrow, retired from the sport in 2017 and was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2019. Later, in 2022, the player won the Helen Rollason Award at the recent Sports Personality of the Year 2022 ceremony. Geoff described the vandalism in detail and referred to the offender as "scum of a person."

He said he along with his family including his son were out for a meal at Rockello’s in Glasshoughton Castleford when some yobs carried out the destructive act.


He exclaimed how low some people can be, adding a shameful person proceeded to scrape all over Rob's Disability van.

As soon as the post went online, several rugby players showed their solidarity. Among them was former England and Great Britain international Paul Sculthorpe and ex-Leeds Rhinos star, Barrie McDermott.
