Rugby League Player Bryn Hargreaves found dead 14 months after he went missing

Bryn Hargreaves, a former St Helens rugby league player, who had gone missing in America over a year ago, has been found dead. The 37-year-old athlete was reported missing in January last year when he failed to show up for work.

In a heart-wrenching online post, Bryn's brother Gareth confirmed the discovery of his body. Following an extensive search for over a year, Bryn's mother also expressed her sorrow and paid tribute to her son.

After more than a year of searching for her son, Maria Andrews shared her heartbreaking feelings online, saying that she was shattered and had no words to express her pain.


Bryn Hargreaves was a former rugby league player in the Super League for Wigan, St Helens, and Bradford. He had moved to the United States to work in the oil and gas industry, where he went missing from his apartment on January 3, 2022.

The Monongalia County Sheriff's Office was informed about his disappearance on January 16. Police found Bryn's apartment unlocked with his shower still running, and all his belongings, including his phone and laptop, were left behind, which led to the suspicion of a possible abduction.

Bryn Hargreaves resided and worked in Pittsburgh with his American wife whom he met on holiday in Mexico. However, after their separation, he moved to West Virginia.

Bryn's brother previously mentioned that a private investigator funded by a JustGiving page had requested permission from the police to search a lake for Bryn's body. The 36-year-old had been dealing with some mental health issues, as per his brother's statement. However, the police had denied permission for the search, and despite the availability of funds for private inquiry, the family was unable to proceed further.
