Former Wales captain Eddie Butler has passed away at the age of 65. He appeared for Wales 16 times between 1980 and 1984, and the broadcaster left for heavenly during sleep. Eddie Butler traveled to Peru for a charity trek and was asleep when he passed away.

The captain scored two tries and was the skipper six times. He became famous in the 1970s with Pontypool before being a Wales representative from 1980 to 1984. He went to New Zealand in 1983 with the British and Irish Lions and became a highly respected broadcaster and commentator.

Rob Butcher, Welsh Rugby Union chair, said Eddie was Welsh rugby's voice and will be missed by friends and family. He noted Eddie was loved by fans worldwide and will be missed at the WRU. He said Eddie was a proud player who represented his country and was a prominent figure in press boxes after retirement from the game.

A spokesperson said they were honored to have Eddie as a part of the charity and will always cherish the memories together.

Demise and History

Eddie passed away on September 15 while sleeping in Peruvian Andes at Ecoinka base camp. He is survived by six children and his wife, Susan. Eddie Buttler studied Spanish and French at Fitzwilliam College and represented Cambridge University between 1976 and 1978.

Eddie made his debut for Wales in January 1980 over an 18-9 win against France. Once his career as a player ended, Eddie became a teacher and worked with a property development company. He became a broadcaster and mainly worked with BBC for significant sporting events and rugby.
