During their meet for the first time since the surfacing of the controversy, Lady Susan Hussey tendered her apology to charity campaigner Ngozi Fulani, and the latter has accepted it. The meeting took place on December 16. The racism row erupted last month when Fulani was at Buckingham Palace and was quizzed about her ethnicity by Lady Susan Hussey. After that event, the 83-year-old faced severe criticism and resigned from the position of Lady of the Household, which is an honorary role.

A joint statement issued by Fulani and the Palace said that the meeting "was filled with warmth and understanding," and Lady Susan apologised for her comments and "the distress" that was caused to Ngozi Fulani. The statement said that Fulani had appreciated that "no malice was intended" and accepted Lady Susan's apology.

On November 29, Ngozi visited the royal residence for an event where Lady Susan reportedly asked her about her nationality and which part of Africa she belonged to. After the event, Ngozi made severe allegations against Lady Susan through a Twitter post. Buckingham Palace had also condemned the "deeply regrettable comments."

Lady Susan Hussey is the godmother of Prince William and was one of the most trusted friends of Queen Elizabeth II. Ngozi Fulani is the chief executive of Sistah Space, a charity supporting African and Caribbean heritage women, who suffered sexual and domestic abuse.
