Roger Federer, a 20-time Grand Slam winner and one of the greatest players of all time, caused a stir when he announced he would stop playing after this week's Laver Cup.

Roger Federer has stated that he will play his final professional tennis match on Friday at the Laver Cup in the doubles. The 41-year-old claimed that, after announcing his retirement from the sport last week following a record-breaking career, he is still adjusting to the 'limitations' of his physique.

Due to many knee surgeries, the Swiss player hasn't played in a professional match since Hubert Hurkacz beat him in the Wimbledon quarterfinals in 2021.

What matches will Federer play?

Although the 20-time grand slam champion has announced he will play one more doubles match at the O2 Arena, that will currently be Federer's last professional singles encounter.

Rafael Nadal, the Spaniard and Federer's tough rival in his final match, was mentioned by the Swiss player as a doubles partner who would be wonderful to play with.

He added that it would be a very uncommon situation if he played. As long as they fought to uphold this appreciation for one another, their families, and their coaching teams, Nadal and Federer have always gotten along well.

Federer on maintaining healthy relationships in a career

Federer talked about his lifelong dedication to sustaining healthy relationships. He said players could navigate their professional journeys and come out on the other side while maintaining a positive relationship. This is a powerful lesson for tennis, sports, and perhaps even beyond.

However, it is uncertain whether or not this event will occur. However, it will undoubtedly be a fantastic event for everyone to see.
While there is no information about Federer's Team World opponents until Thursday, his teammates for Team Europe might include Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.

Federer to Skip One Singles Match

Each of the six players on each team must participate in at least one singles match over the opening two days of the Laver Cup, a competition that Federer helped develop.

However, Federer claimed he had contacted the tournament organizers to skin the singles round. He discussed just playing one doubles match with Team Europe chairman Bjorn Bjorg and Team World leader John McEnroe. Matteo Berrettini, the alternate for Europe, will replace Federer in the competition when Federer plays in the singles round on Saturday.
