Release of new Football Manager 23 reveals reality of changes in 2024/25 Champions League

Europe's most important football tournament, the Champions League, is set for a significant restructuring in 2024. Instead of the group system, in practise for years, the 2024 league will have all 36 teams (up from 32 presently) in one group.

Teams will play 10 matches instead of six as of now. Besides the top eight, a formula-based playoff system between the lower-down teams will decide the other eight slots in the knockouts. Football fans appear puzzled at the moment about keeping track of so many games.

The new FM 23 incorporates several features, including a recruitment revamp with the squad manager. The experience matrix is another new one that helps to group the players, according to their stage of development. In addition, agents will have a greater engagement in contract negotiations.
