Speaking at the FiLiA Women's Rights conference in Glasgow, Rowling emphasized her willingness to face the backlash for her beliefs.
The one who received love for her Harry Potter series from around the globe has been vocal on trans issues.
"I've looked around and realized that it has to be someone who can take the hit. And it has to be me. I can afford it,” said Rowling.
The author worth an estimated £875 million according to the Sunday Times Rich List, has repeatedly called for women-only spaces to be reserved for biological women alone.
Her stance comes from the belief she holds that women's spaces should be preserved exclusively for biological women. She has been called Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist (TERF) by various activists.
After being accused of being a TERF, she said that she has concerns for the safety of both trans individuals and women.
"I have nothing but profound sympathy for trans women who have experienced male violence. I want trans people to be safe. I just don't want women and girls to be any less safe," Rowling clarified.
The conference, attended by women from 35 different countries, saw its fair share of opposition as transgender activists protested.
The venue, Platform, initially canceled the conference but later reversed the decision after legal consultation citing the Equality Act.
A group of 40-50 trans activists protested against those attending the conference with signs 'Keep terfs out of Glasgow' and 'Transphobia kills and hurts all women'.
