The incident happened in Manchester Northern Quarter, the rapper’s hometown and Aitch has faced a backlash over this stunt. Responding to the criticism, Aitch took to social media and tweeted that he didn’t choose the locations for billboard advertising.
Aitch commented that he would never dream of disrespecting the local hero, Ian Curtis. He also wrote that he found out about his album’s artwork being painted over the iconic mural on Port Street. He added it was the first time he had heard it, and he and his team are resolving the mistake.

Promotions are underway for rapper Aitch’s upcoming album called Close to Home. The album is scheduled to release on August 19.
Peter Hook, the founder of Joy Division, was happy with Aitch’s response and thanked the rapper for his gesture.
The mural is looked upon by locals and holds great importance. A street artist called Akse P-19 is credited with painting the mural. The mural draws inspiration from Ian Curtis’ photo taken by Phillippe Carly.
On the other hand, Ian Curtis is famous for his iconic song, ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart.
The mural first appeared in 2006, symbolizing the partnership between music and Headstock, the mental health festival. Its objective was to raise awareness about mental health and how to address its issues.
The Manchester Council backed this mural which then gained importance.
Commenting on Aitch’s advert and the goof-up, the mural’s artist, Akse P-19, remarked that it didn’t require too much common sense to understand what the mural meant and stood for.
