The fears of chaos at railway stations before Christmas have grown stronger after train workers announced new dates for a series of strikes on Tuesday. Per media reports, the RMT union has declared multiple 48-hour strikes for December and January as a part of their ongoing dispute with the employers and the government over salaries, working conditions, and jobs.
According to a Mirror report, about 40,000 RMT members are expected to participate in the strike, affecting the services of Network Rail and 14 rail companies. As reported, the strikes will take place on the following dates: 13th, 14th, 16th, and 17th of December 3th, 4th, 6th, and 7th of January
Additionally, an overtime ban has also been announced from December 18 to January 2. RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch stated that they had been reasonable but found it impossible to negotiate a settlement with the government blocking a resolution. The union also stated that the government failed to let operating firms present a new offer after the talks broke down.

Earlier this month, the union had called off a planned strike at the last moment after assurance of intervention from the newly appointed Transport Secretary Mark Harper. However, in fresh attacks on Harper, the union alleged that the secretary wanted to block any deal between the parties.
