Queen Elizabeth II's funeral: Supermarkets in UK shut stores to honor monarch. See which will remain open

Due to the Queen's funeral on Monday, the majority of stores and supermarkets were closed. However, others may open for less hours or as usual.

Queen Elizabeth II's funeral was held at Westminster Abbey on September 19. The streets of Windsor and London were full of people looking to bid final goodbye to Queen, and businesses all around the UK have announced closures so that employees can pay their respects to the monarch.

While most supermarkets were closed on the day, you may still be able to buy necessities at select grocery stores. Just look up the opening time of your neighborhood businesses online before leaving.

Aldi

All Aldi stores will be closed in the UK on Monday for the whole day. The company announced, the decision has been taken "as a token of respect for our retail associates to honor Her Majesty the Queen."


Asda

Asda will be closed for the day on Monday, but it will open at 5 pm. According to a statement from Asda, all of its stores will be closed on Monday, September 19, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. as a sign of respect for Her Majesty the Queen.

Lidl

Lidl is another retailer that will close all of its stores on Monday. According to a statement, all of our stores in England, Scotland and Wales will be closed on the day of Her Majesty's funeral in her honor and to give our employees a chance to pay their respects.

Morrisons

While Morrisons shops will be closed on Monday, gas stations will reopen at 5 pm. As a sign of respect and so that employees can pay homage to Her Majesty, all of our supermarkets will be closed on Monday, September 19, according to managers. Our gas stations will reopen at 5 pm.

Sainsbury's

Due to the funeral, most Sainsbury's stores will be closed on Monday. While gas stations and Sainsbury's local convenience stores will open at 5 p.m., all supermarkets, Habitat showrooms and Argos stores will be closed.
According to Sainsbury's statement, on Monday, September 19, all Sainsbury's Habitat showrooms, supermarkets and Argos outlets will be closed in honor of Her Majesty and to let our coworkers pay their respects.

Tesco

Tesco has announced that its main supermarkets will be shut down for the entire day, but Express outlets will not operate until 5 pm. The business issued the following statement: "On Monday, September 19, our major shops will be closed during the day, and our Express stores will be open from 5 pm to 10 pm, to allow our staff and customers throughout the UK to pay their respects to Her Majesty the Queen."
