Queen Elizabeth II funeral: Venue and who will wear what; all details you need to know

The national mourning for Queen Elizabeth II will last till the day of her funeral, which is on Monday, September 19.

Time & place of Queen's funeral:

The Queen's funeral will happen at 11:00 BST on Monday, September 19. It will take place where Britain's queens and kings are crowned, and other ceremonies of national significance are held, i.e., in the historic church of Westminster Abbey in London.

With the playing of the Last Post, the funeral ceremony will draw closure just before noon on Monday. After that, a national silence of two minutes will be observed.

Who will wear military uniform at Queen's funeral:

According to Buckingham Palace, only those who held military rank and working members of the Royal Family could wear military uniforms. They could wear it at all the five formal events indicating the Queen's death.

This implies that the Princes Royal, the Earl of Wessex, and King Charles, the Prince of Wales, will wear military uniforms.

The Duke of Sussex and Prince Andrew will not wear uniforms at most events.




However, during the Westminster Hall Vigil(One of the five ceremonial events), made a particular exception for Prince Andrew to wear the military dress.

As per the king's request, Prince Harry will wear a military dress at the vigil of the Queen's grandchildren.

Though Prince Andrew served during the Falklands War as a helicopter pilot and spent 22 years in the Navy, he was stripped of his military title following his stepping down as a working Royal because of a 2019 controversy. Among the Queen's children, he was the only one not to wear a military uniform on Monday when they accompanied the Queen's coffin to St Giles Cathedral.

Prince Harry lost his military title when in March 2020, he stepped back from his senior royal role with his wife. Prince Harry served ten years in the Army and was twice deployed to Afghanistan.
