Princess Diana's former bodyguard opens up about her death. Here's what he said
Princess Diana died in a car crash in August 1997 in Paris. Her ex-bodyguard, Lee Sansum, has claimed that if he had been on duty, he could have saved the royal.

Princess Diana died in Paris in a car crash on August 31, 1997. Besides the Princess of Wales, Dodi Fayed, an Egyptian film producer and her romantic partner, was also killed in the crash.
Talking about that deadly night, the 60-year-old former bodyguard said it could have been him in the car. Sansum explained that he and other guards drew straws to decide, who would accompany Diana.
According to Sansum, when he knew that Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed did not wear seatbelts, he understood the reason for their death.
Sansum said the tragedy should not have happened that fateful night as it was a standard protocol for Royals to wear seatbelts. He noted that the standard safety practice was an order given by Dodi's father, Mohamed Fayed. He always insisted on wearing seatbelts, and the tragedy could have been avoided had he been there in the car, added Sansum.
Sansum said that he was close to Princess Diana, and she had nicknamed him ‘Rambo.’ He said their bonding took place while they were in St Tropez in July 1997. Sansum was tasked with looking after the princess and her two sons - William and Harry - in St Tropez.
The ex-bodyguard also stated that Diana was worried that she could be assassinated after she heard about the murder of her friend, Gianni Versace, the famous fashion designer.
Sansum stated that the princess was shaking while talking about the assassination. Sansum also said that he assured Diana that nothing like that would happen to her.
