Denmark's Queen Margrethe II stripped her four grandchildren of their royal titles recently. The decision seems to have not gone down well in her own family.
Prince Joachim of Denmark has lashed out at his mother, Queen Margrethe II, for stripping his four kids of their prince and princess titles. Queen Margrethe II, on September 28, announced to strip her four grandchildren of their royal titles. As per an announcement by the royal palace, Princess Athena (10), Prince Henrik (13), Prince Felix (20) and Prince Nikolai (23) will become Countesses and Counts from January 1, and they will be called excellencies in future. Queen Margrethe II said she hoped her decision would let her grandchildren shape their lives without any limitations caused by Royal considerations and duties.
Prince Joachim, Margrethe II's youngest son, questioned why his children should be punished "that way." He said his children were sad. He also claimed that he was told about the royal palace's decision only five days before the news was made public.

Meanwhile, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark has defended the decision of her mother-in-law Queen Margrethe II. The 50-year-old Crown Princess is the spouse of Queen Margrethe II's eldest son, Crown Prince Frederick of Denmark. Notably, the four children of Frederick and Mary would not be affected by the Queen's decision. However, Mary also suggested that even the position of her children was not secure. The eldest son of Crown Prince and Crown Princess, 16-year-old Prince Christian, is second-in-line to the throne behind his father.
