Prince Harry Wants to Mend Relations With King Charles
During an interview with BBC News, the Duke of Sussex disclosed that his ongoing security battle has widened the gap with his father, King Charles, and left him wanting reconciliation amid health concerns over the monarch, as per People report. The prince said, "I would love reconciliation with my family. There's no point in continuing to fight anymore," quoted People.
The 40-year-old prince, who is now based in the United States with his wife Meghan Markle and their two children, acknowledged the distance has become painful, particularly as his father, aged 76, has been diagnosed with cancer and is currently getting treatment, as per the report.
He said, "Life is precious. I don't know how much longer my father has. He won't speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile," quoted People.
Legal Battle Over Security
The British royal family's dispute started in 2020 when Harry and his wife, stepped back from their royal roles, as per the report. He then fought a legal battle for the restoration of state-funded security during his visits to the UK, as per People report. However, Judge Sir Geoffrey Vos rejcted the appeal on May 2, saying that, RAVEC's (the government’s Royal and VIP Executive Committee) decision to reduce Harry's security was "understandable and perhaps predictable," quoted People.
While, the prince asserted that his security issues "could be resolved" with the help of his father, he said, "There is a lot of control and ability in my father's hands," quoted People. Harry mention, "Ultimately, this whole thing could be resolved through him. Not necessarily by intervening, but by stepping aside, allowing the experts to do what is necessary," as quoted in the report.
But, the royal palace has consistently denied that the King has the power to have Harry's security reinstated, reported People.
