Prince Harry, Meghan Markle have adopted a rescued beagle from a testing lab and welcomed the canine into their family. The beagle is called Momma Mia and is one of the 4,000 beagles that were seized by authorities from a testing lab that violated a lot of animal-welfare clauses.
Envigo breeding and research plant in Virginia used to sell puppies for biotech and pharmaceutical research and kept the canines in deplorable conditions. Most of the dogs were malnourished and had food waste and feces piled up in their cages. Over 300 puppies died between January and July 2021 at the facility.
Shannon Keith runs the Beagle Freedom Project and has so far kept a number of rescued beagles. She said she got a call from an unknown number, and it was Meghan Markle at the other end. Meghan and Shannon spoke for 30 minutes, and Shannon wondered whether she was talking to Megan Fox. Shannon realized it was Meghan Markle and not Megan Fox when the royals made an after-hours, low-key entry at San Fernando Valley House to see the dogs.
