Police in Dagenham, East London have arrested a woman in connection with the death of two young boys, aged two and five. Both were found inside a home on Friday afternoon. The arrested woman is being quizzed by the police officers.

A man who was earlier arrested has been let go with no further action planned on him. According to the police, both suspects were known to the deceased children and police is not looking for anyone else.

The incident came into light after neighbours called the police after hearing shouting and screaming coming from the house.

Speaking about the incident, Detective Inspector Sean Treweek said, "This clearly and extremely distressing incident with many unanswered questions… at this very early stage, nobody else is sought in connection with the deaths."

IT worker Sultan Wadad, 40, said: “I heard this really loud scream just after 1.30 pm. “It seemed reactionary like someone had seen or heard something truly horrific. The fact I’ve got two kids myself makes this all the more harrowing.”

Jason Croney, 37, dad-of-six, added: “Shouting could be heard from the house beforehand. No one thought much of it. But I realised it might have been something more serious when I saw a police helicopter circling overhead. This is a nice, quiet street so everyone is shocked.”
