Australian actor Margot Robbie said that Disney had canceled her "Pirates of the Caribbean". In an interview, she claimed that the team had been working on an idea to have more stories with female protagonists. However, Disney appears to want to do something other than that.

Disney Cancelled the Female-Led Pirates of the Caribbean Movie

Sources from 2020 revealed that Disney was interested in Robbie's Pirates and a second remake of the series written by Ted Elliott and Craig Mazin. The creator of every Pirates of the Caribbean film, Jerry Bruckheimer, was working on both projects' concepts at the time.

Did the Spinoff Have a New Story?

Screenwriter Christina Hodson would have written the new female-led Pirates movie. This would have significantly differed from the protracted franchise revival initially reported in 2019. It was not the usual shuffling of scenes and characters. The idea was to present a different story with different perspectives and characters.
