Over 30 injured after rollercoaster crashes at theme park in Germany

Over 30 people have been injured after rollercoaster crashed at the Legoland theme park in Germany's Gunzburg. A police representative said that a criminal inquiry regarding the collision has been opened. The cause of the mishap at the Fire Dragon ride is presently being investigated.

A rollercoaster train at the Legoland theme park which is in Gunzburg reportedly unexpectedly braked and struck another train, according to reports. As many as 31 persons were hurt. Three helicopters were deployed along with rescue and fire personnel. There was no clear indication of what caused the incident.

Fifteen of those 31, according to a police spokesperson, were brought to the hospital for additional care, with one person suffering a serious injury.


According to a park spokeswoman, the event took place in the Fire Dragon ride's station. It was said: "The inquiries are currently being conducted. We are not currently in a position to provide any additional information regarding the accident's cause or how it came about. The investigation focuses on this."

A criminal inquiry was immediately launched, the police spokesperson continued, and representatives from the public prosecutor's office had already visited the scene.



The remainder of the park, he said, was still open; only the area around the ride was shut down.

The minimum age to ride the rollercoaster with an adult is six, and the minimum age to ride it alone is eight.

Meanwhile, last week another rollercoaster tragedy claimed a woman's life at a theme park in Klotten, which is located in southwest Germany.

The 57-year-old woman was thrown from the rollercoaster while it was in motion and later passed away from her wounds. The cause of accident was yet to be ascertained.
