Once a heartthrob, Nick Berry is hardly recognizable now

Once he was the heartthrob of hundreds of thousands of people, his fans would scream and besiege the BBC Studio, where the iconic television series was filmed, he is now hardly recognisable.

He was spotted recently holding a cup of coffee, but his fans were disappointed to see him in grey hair and beard.

He is no other than British star Nick Berry, who became a household name for his acting in ‘Heartbeat’ and ‘Eastenders’.


Nick got his real big break in 1985 with his stint in ‘Albert Square’. It made him the real star as hordes of his fans would scream and besiege the studio.

He also tried his luck at singing and came out in 1986 with the album ‘Every Loser Wins’, which also featured in the ‘Eastenders’.

Nick married film star Rachel Robertson in 1994, quit acting in 1997 and decided to be a stay-at-home father to take care of his two children, Finley and Louis.

When Nick quit acting, he was only 34. He said that he was ‘bored by fame’.

When he met Rachel in 1989, she was only 17, and was working as a model for Levi’s jeans. She is known for her roles in ‘The Jungle Book’ (1994) ‘Mack the Knife’ (1989).

When a journalist informed Rachel about Nick’s decision of quitting acting, she could not believe it. After quitting acting, Nick set up his own TV and Film Company, Valentine Productions. He resigned from his production house in 2019. His romance with girlfriend Gillian Taylforth caused a stir as she played his stepmother Cathy Beale.

Gillian later remained in long-time relationship with Geoff Night with whom she had two children.

Once Nick told a journalist that he would never say never to returning to his acting roots, he is now 60 with grey hair.
